using a ST7735S display

Is there any way to use a ST7735S display instead of a ST7789?

I was trying to use this LCD_HAT for Raspberry Pi Zero (https://www.waveshare.com/wiki/1.44inch_LCD_HAT), but although the backlight turns on the menu doesn't show (I can navigate the menu with the buttons on the display, but only blindly). I tried various combinations for the ST7789 in minidexed.ini in the hope that there is some minimal compatibility with ST7789 but to no avail.

Is there maybe an easy way to tweak the code for ST7735 and then recompile it myself?

Hello @rh-01. This display is not supported. I don't have such a display so I can't test this. But since the software is open source, you may be able to code the needed changes yourself?

Thanks for the quick reply, probonopd! I'd love to give it a try, although I don't have that much experience with C++... Which files do I have to change, and can you give me a rough idea how much work is involved to change the code from ST7789 to ST7735?

I don't know, but this is what GitHub Copilot "thinks".

It seems like the ST77... displays are somewhat similar, here is a driver that apparently supports both families. So this might serve as a reference in case you would like to check how it can be done:
